ਗੀਤਕਾਰੀ, ਲੋਕ ਬੋਲੀ, ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਿੰਬ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਇਕੀ _ਕੀ ਉਹਦੀ ਅਜ਼ਮਤ ਇਥੇ ਤਕ ਹੀ ਸੀਮਤ ਹੈ? ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦੀ ਸੋਜ਼! ਚੈਖ਼ੋਵ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ‘ਸੁੰਦਰ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਤਾਂ ਗਰਾਮੋਫ਼ੋਨ ’ਚ ਵੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਨਸਾਨੀ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਤੇ ਧੜਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ।’ ਇਹ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਅੰਦਰ ਠਾਠਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਰਵਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਯੋਗ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦੈ। ਇਕੱਲੇ ਵਿਯੋਗ-ਸੰਜੋਗ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਉਸਦੀ ਕਾਵਿ ਕਲਾ ਏਨੀ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਨਾ ਗਿਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਜੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਿਤੀ, ਸੰਸਿਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਰਾਟ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ। ਉਹ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਰਸਮਾਂ-ਰੀਤਾਂ, ਮੇਲਿਆਂ-ਮਸਾਵਿਆਂ, ਤਿਥਾਂ-ਤਿਓਹਾਰਾਂ, ਰੁੱਤਾਂ, ਗਹਿਣਿਆਂ, ਸੱਪਾਂ, ਰੁੱਖਾਂ, ਰੱਖਾਂ, ਬਾਗ-ਬਗੀਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਾਂ-ਸਰਵਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਏਨੇ ਸਹਿਜ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਇਕ ਜਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਨੇ। ਮੇਰੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਰਸ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇੰਝ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸ਼ਿਅਰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਐਨ ਢੁਕਦਾ ਹੈ :

ਹਰਕੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਹਿਲ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਉਸ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਰੇ ਇਨਕਲਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਚਪਨ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਿਖਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰੋਤ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਤੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਧਾਰਤ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਦਲ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਸ ਵਸਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਚੁਣੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਅੱਧੀ ਸਦੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਜੀਵੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਫਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਣਕ ਗਾਹੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕੰਬਾਈਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੀ ਡਿੱਠਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਡੀਂ ਹੰਢਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਮਾਜਕ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਥਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਸਾਵੀਂ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੁਲਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਪੈਂਡੂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਰਤ ਕੇਂਦਰਤ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੁਝ ਮੁਲੱਵਾਨ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਲਵਾਨ ਰਵਾਇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਤਰਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਸਾਰਥਕ ਕਾਰਜ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰਾਸਤੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਤਲਾਸ਼ਾ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਦੇਹੀ ਕਰਨ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਕਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗੀ। ਮੈਂ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹਉਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

‘ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸਫ਼ਰ’ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੁਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲੀ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਜਾਂ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਕੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਇਸਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਤਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਹਿਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਕਾਪ੍ਰਸਤ ਪਾਤਰ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਉਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਇਹ ਕਥਾ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਣਖ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਬਰੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਲੋਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਨੂੰ ਗਨੀ ਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਬੀ ਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਰਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਂ-ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੰਕੀਰਣਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ, ਇਹ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਉਸਦੀ ਸਰਵੋਤਮ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਿਆਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੂਸਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਅੱਲਾ ਯਾਰ ਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡੇ ਤਕ ਪੁਚਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦੇ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੀਹਾਂ ਏਨੀਆਂ ਡੂੰਘੀਆਂ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਮਾੜੇ ਮੋਟੇ ਭੁਚਾਲੀ ਝਟਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉੱਖੜ ਗਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ।
